Advanced Program for Woodwinds and Horns

Wind Quintets and Chamber Orchestra

The ZêzereArts Festival presents a course for advanced wind instrument students, in the Médio Tejo region of central Portugal. Seven days in an idyllic location with an intense program of chamber music and integrating the ZêzereArts Festival Orchestra.

Two wind quintets will be formed to rehearse and perform, at the same time that the ten players, in rotating positions, make up the wind section of the Festival Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra.

This is an magnificent opportunity to learn with experienced musicians and pedagogues while, in parallel, undertaking intensive musical activity in the ZêzereArts Festival.

Tutors

Katharine Rawdon | Chamber Music – Sectional Coaching
Brian MacKay
| Conductor – Sectional Coaching

For

Advanced students of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn with special interest in chamber and orchestral music. Spaces to 2 of each instrument.

Note: Applicants will be requested to present a CV/bio and a recording (approximately 10 minutes) with their application. The recording can be audio or video, it may include solo, solo with piano, solo with orchestra, orchestral excepts, and/or chamber music performances. It may be a compilation of recordings from different moments (you do not have to prepare a new recording only for this application). Participants will be chosen on a selective basis according to their complete application, due to the limited openings.

Location

Our home base will be the historic and picturesque city of Tomar, of Knights Templar fame. Here you will have the opportunity—along with musicians from the four corners of the world—to rehearse and perform. You’ll appreciate and enjoy the famous Convento de Cristo, beyond its touristic interest, as a workplace and hub of focussed musical activity. Students will have lodging in the Convent itself. Rehearsals, lessons, and concerts will take place in Tomar and in Ferreira do Zêzere in several venues.

Ativities

— Preparation of concert repertoire of the two wind quintets (repertoire such as the quintets by Harbison, Schoenberg, Maslanka, Vila-Lobos, Barber, Carter, etc.…).

— Both quintets will be presented in concert as part of the ZêzereArts Festival
