A versatile Portuguese-American flutist residing in Portugal since 1988, she is dedicated to creative expression in classical and contemporary music, and music education. She has been soloist in concertos ranging from Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart, to Pierre Boulez and Alexandre Delgado, performing with the leading orchestras of Portugal. As a soloist or chamber musician with ensembles such as Musicâmera, Syrinx: XXII, OrchestrUtópica, Machina Mundi, and the Manhattan Wind Quintet, she has performed across Portugal, the United States, Europe, and India. The CD (flut)uações, with Catherine Stryncks, cello, and Francisco Cipriano, percussion, came out in 2022, and includes works dedicated to her by prominent Portuguese composers and one composition of her own. Her CD “Stepping Out” is currently being edited, and includes four of her compositions, plus works by Robert Dick, Anne Norman, and Michael Parkin, among others.

She has premiered more than one hundred works by living composers on flutes ranging from the piccolo to the contrabass flute. Career highlights include independent study throughout Europe as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, performances at Carnegie Hall and Carnegie Recital Hall and under Leonard Bernstein at the Tanglewood Festival, and being named a Powell Artist by the legendary flute-making company in Boston.

She was Principal Flute of the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa during 25 years, having resigned in order to dedicate herself to personal projects, chamber music, and teaching. She has given masterclasses in Portugal and the U.S. and is Adjunct Professor of Flute and Chamber Music at ESART, Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. She studied composition with Karl Kohn in Los Angeles and Eleanor Cory in New York, avant-garde flute techniques with the legendary Robert Dick, and improvisation with Pedro de Alcantara in Paris. In 2023 she became certified in Integrated Practice, in Paris. She holds a Specialist Degree from ESART-IPCB, a Master in Flute Performance (with honors) from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, and a Bachelor of Arts (with honors) from Pomona College in California, and was elected to the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa.
