Nélia Gonçalves regularly performs in projects that range from early to contemporary
music. She has participated in the contemporary operas HUMMUS by Zad Moultaka (2015)
and Tiago Cutileiro’s Tudo Nunca Sempre o Mesmo Diferente Nada (2019). She has also
presented programmes of baroque music at festivals including the Festival de Música
Religiosa de Guimarães (2019) and the Festival Dias da Música (2015), interpreting works
by Bach and Vivaldi.

Nélia’s other operatic works includes the role of Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and
Gretel (Darcos 2016), and the cast of Dialogue des Carmelites at the Teatro Nacional de São
Carlos.

Funded by the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Nélia has participated in diverse ENOA
(European Network of Opera Academies) workshops, studying under singers such as
Claudio Desderi, Larissa Diadkova and Sergei Leiferkus and interpreting roles such as
Marianna in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino (2015) and Vecchia in Gianni Schicci by Puccini
(2016).

As a soloist, she has performed in concerts directed by António Vassalo Lourenço,
Laurence Cummings, Luís Carvalho, Brian MacKay, João Paulo Janeiro and Miguel Jalôto.

Nélia performed with the chamber choir of Casa da Música from 2009 to 2019, working
with Paul Hillier, James Wood, Simon Carrington, Andrew Bizants, Kaspars Putnins,
Laurence Cummings, Christoph König, Andrew Parrott e Peter Rundel. In 2013 she was
selected to perform with the Tenso Europe Chamber Choir conducted by Kaspars Putniņš.
Nélia has been collaborating with the ZêzereArts Festival since 2014.

She completed a bachelor degree in Music and a Masters in Music Education (specialising
in singing) at the University of Aveiro in 2013 and regularly pursues additional
professional training. Nélia currently teaches singing at the Conservatoires of Castelo
Brano and of Covilhã.
