Jirí Hudec has been a Tutor in Double Bass at the RNCM since 2001. He studied at the Janácek Academy with Jirí Bortlícek, graduating in 1977 and joined the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in the same year, becoming Principal Double Bassist in 1990.
Jirí is much sought after as a chamber musician and soloist. In 1999 he performed as a soloist at the Prague Spring Festival and he plays with a number of leading players and ensembles. He has given a solo recital at Wigmore Hall in London and played at a première of a double bass concerto by Richard Rodney Bennett with the English Chamber Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall.
In addition to his position at the RNCM, he is an Associate Professor at the Prague Academy of Music and his students have gone on to become members of leading orchestras. He also takes part in courses on the interpretation of music in Japan and has made a number of recordings for radio and CDs.
