The programme for the ZêzereArts Festival Chorus 2023 will be announced very shortly.
The dates will be 15th to 23rd of July 2023
We are delighted to announce our plans for the ZêzereArts Festival Chorus at the 2022 festival. Following two challenging years during which it was impossible to realise live choral events we envisage a triumphant return to live choral singing.
The 2022 ZêzereArts Festival Chorus programme will run from July 16th to 24th with the closing concert being on Saturday the 23rd.
The ZêzereArts Festival Chorus attracts experienced choral singers from all over the world who wish to combine their love of singing and performing with a holiday in the sunshine, meeting like-minded people and enjoying the wealth of cultural experiences to be discovered in this region.
Typically based in and around the historic city of Tomar, the Festival Chorus week involves daily rehearsals culminating in public performances alongside all our choral groups and collaborating with the festival’s professional musicians and student instrumentalists.
It seems appropriate to begin where we left off two years ago with John Tavener’s Song for Athene as if the music never stopped…. With it, Randall Thompson’s Alleluia, written for students at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood, and Lajos Bárdos’ Cantemus! set the scene for a joyous return to singing. The focal performance will be of the Charpentier Te Deum which will be accompanied by musicians from the French baroque ensemble, Pulcinella, and students from our Académie Baroque which is being run specially for the occasion and in collaboration with the Saison France – Portugal 2022.
Our performance venues feature UNESCO world heritage monuments and medieval buildings, such as the Convento de Cristo, Batalha Monastery, Dornes, Almourol Castle, and the Capela Santa Iria in Tomar.
During their stay, participants enjoy access to free Festival performances and plenty of downtime in which to explore the local sights and culture, and soak up the atmosphere.
The Festival Choir will focus on the performance of the Charpentier Te Deum with Pulcinella and the Students of our Baroque Académie. They will also sing in other performances during the week.
Repertoire:
John Tavener – Song for Athene
Charpentier – Te Deum H.146
Randall Thompson – Alleluia
Lajos Bárdos – Cantemus!
