ZêzereArts is delighted to welcome the chamber choir Ex Urbe to sing at the 2022 festival. They will present a programme called Reformation and Romance.
Ex Urbe is an established, experienced chamber choir of 28 members from across the West Midlands of England, who are devoted to learning, rehearsing, and performing a wide range of choral music.
Ex Urbe “is best known for the juxtaposition of early music with contemporary works. In addition to loving bringing works from von Bingen to Brahms to life, we have been privileged to commission contemporary composers such as Chris Long (Songs of the Soul) and have performed several specially commissioned new choral pieces, including making a premiere recording for BBC Radio 3 about Clara Schumann’s life (Clara by Chloe Knibbs).
“We like to perform a broad mix of challenging classical repertoire, ancient with modern, a cappella and accompanied, led by our dynamic and inspiring Musical Director, Benjamin Hamilton. Benjamin brings passion, expertise and energy to our rehearsals and performances – in equal measure! His aim is to bring a high-quality musical experience to all – audience members and performers alike – working with Warwickshire Youth Choirs to bring singing to the young, Warwick – a Singing Town to make singing normal again, as well as working as an award-winning translator of opera to bring storytelling to new audiences.
“We are very excited about coming to Portugal to take part in the ZêzereArts Festival!”
